Scoil Mhuire, Newsletter, Sept.10

Sept. 10

Welcome back to another school year. Happily our intake of Junior infants are well settled already and finding their way around the school! Over the summer we upgraded our electrical system and installed a new energy efficient lighting throughout the school and replaced some ceilings. We also have new disability access and toilet facilities.

With the ever-increasing financial demands on families we are doing our best to keep costs down. Our Book Rental scheme is now very cheap and we are repeating the practice of not writing in Irish workbooks from 4th -6th . Our photocopying/art charge is a modest €12.

Staff meeting

Our first staff meeting takes place on Thursday 9th at 2pm. Senior Infant  children normally using the early bus will be accommodated on the 2pm run.

School Uniform

It is important for all pupils (in particular senior pupils!) to put their name on sweatshirts and coats as we have already experienced “lost” items of clothing. There is a rail of unclaimed and unmarked coats in the central hall – feel free to come in and claim them!

Brennan Personal Accident Insurance

Information regarding pupil personal accident insurance accompanies this newsletter. This is not compulsory but many families like the security of knowing there is medical cover for unexpected accidental injury. Rates for school time and 24 hour cover remain the same as last year at €5 and €8.Payment can be by cash or cheque. If sending in a cheque please make payable to “Scoil Mhuire” as school payment to the company is by a single online transaction. Last date for receipt of insurance forms is September 24th.

Music Classes

We are piloting music education classes after school this year. Ms Anna Murphy is offering Irish music lessons which will be held on Friday afternoons here after school. Please read the leaflet and if you are interested she would like you to call her directly or you can give your name to the class teacher. The lessons   uare targeted at 1st- 6th classes and instruments are provided for the first month.

Liturgical calendar

A full list of dates for services leading up to and including communion and confirmation will be issued before the end of September. The beginning of School Year Mass will be held in St James Church, Horeswood on Sunday Oct 3rd at 10.30am. This will be followed by refreshments in the school Hall.
