Inis Saimer is a historic island located in the Erne Estuary in the town of Ballyshannon,

south County Donegal, in north-western Republic of Ireland.

  • The house on Inis Saimer contains three bedrooms (all approximately 4x4m), bathroom with separate bath and shower, a kitchen cum sitting room (approximately 5x7m) with open fireplace and a hallway. The kitchen cum sitting room has a television, video and stereo music system in the sitting area and cooker, microwave oven, fridge-freezer and washing machine in the kitchen area.
  • While Inis Saimer is a fully private island, it is no more than 70 meters away from the mainland at its closest point, on the edge of Ballyshannon town, no more than 5 minutes walk to the nearest shop. Inis Saimer has the peaceful tranquillity of an island, with a view towards the west of the broad Erne estuary with the Atlantic Ocean. The western sunsets reflected in the waters of the estuary transforms them into a gently flowing river of liquid gold. The view from Inis Saimer to the east is of the Erne River and the old stone Mall Quay facing the island.

    Island Atmosphere

  • Inis Saimer has the special "island atmosphere", it is a restful place from which to observe the world. A unique combination of an island retreat which is not isolated. It is ideal for writers or musicians seeking inspiration. The island is surrounded by sheltered waters and has its own private floating jetty. Bird watchers and wildlife enthusiasts are woken up in the morning by the sounds of herons and seagulls and the sight of cormorants and seals diving for fish around the island.

    Fishing

  • Many fish species live in the Estuary around Inis Saimer. The Erne seatrout are particularly famous and can be caught from Inis Saimer literally outside the door using various seatrout fishing techniques. This island is an angler's paradise and a non-angler's peaceful haven. In fact, within 5 to 10 km from Ballyshannon, one can enjoy all types of angling, both in freshwater and sea, to be had in Ireland.
  • Ballyshannon and its surroundings boast many craft shops, seafood restaurants and many friendly pubs.
