Intended for handball coaches who wish to further develop their skills as coaches. The
course is currently being developed by the IOHA in conjunction with the National Coaching
and Training Centre (NCTC). It is the second rung of the NCTC certified Handball Coaching
ladder. Participants should have previously completed the NCTC Approved "Introduction
to Coaching Handball" course, and must have several years experience of coaching
handball.
Course Content :
The Sport : The principles of good handball; components of fitness suitable for handball; the history of handball in Ireland and elsewhere; time scale of skill development; offensive and defensive tactics.
The Player : Growth and development; effective learning; principles of sport psychology; goal setting; basic components of physical fitness and training methods; effective skill development.
The Coach : Coaching styles; legal responsibilities; social and gender issues; integration of disabled people in handball; first aid; working with parents, fans, officials and others.
The course is still being finalised and will shortly be presented for approval to the NCTC. The first of these courses will take place in early 1999.
