Shooting/Attacking Exercises |
Exercise 1
Player A passes the ball to
Coach C who returns the pass. Player A takes the return pass on the run and shoots for goal. After shooting Player A takes up position as defender against Player B, who repeats the drill (i.e. pass to coach, take return pass and shoot). After shooting Player B defends against next player (Player C). Player A returns to end of line. Repeat drill using variety of shots - running shot, jump shot, jump shot with a fake and lob over goalkeeper etc. Maintain high temp of shooting. Player B should pass to Coach and start moving as Player A shoots at goal. |
Exercise 2
Player B passes to Player A
who returns the pass. Player B takes the pass on the run and attacks / commits Defender E.
Instead of shooting Player B turns, blocking Defender E, and passes to Player A who has run behind him. Player A shoots and scores. Repeat with Players C and D. Variations on this drill include :
|
Exercise 3
Player A passes to Player B
who returns the pass. Player A receives the pass on the move, runs at Defender E, feints to the right then cuts inside to commit both defenders. Once both defenders are committed Player A passes to Player B, who takes the ball on the run, and shoots. Players A and B replace the two defenders immediately. The next pair of attackers (C and D) repeat the drill. Variations include :
Attackers (i.e. Player A) should always shoot if the opportunity presents itself. |
Exercise 4
Player A gives a long bounce
pass to Player B. Player A follows the pass and attempts to block, or cut down the angle for Player B who shoots from the wing. Extend the drill by placing a second group of balls beside the goal. After Player B shoots Player A goes on a fast break. Player B chases while the goalkeeper makes a long throw to Player A. Ideally have another goalkeeper in the goals at the far end of the court. Player A must score on the fast break. |
