Filtered Moon
The coloured views below were
created using just the simple "designer swatch" of filters
that normally are used for lighting. These filters are very thin and flexible and
can contain upto 300 variations in the spectrum colour range. While they are not like the
usual lunar glass filters available, they do work in seeing certain
features on the Moon.
ABOVE Observations made
using the various coloured filters from the swatch (click image for
closer view). It's quire surprising as to what an
observer can see using the above filters (2, 4 and 9 are excellent
for showing up darker features - maria-flows, dark-halo craters
etc., while 2, 8 and 12 were useful for
showing up the lighter features - rays, young impacts craters
etc.,). NB. The in-between numbered filters were also useful, but, showed variations on a theme
of the above-mentioned numbers.
BELOW Designer swatch, and
eyepiece-caps made from them. NB. As not wanting to promote such
advertised swatches, there are plenty out there at very cheap prices.
The below swatch cost this observer about Euro
10.00 ($13.00) a year-and-a-half ago - upto two small circular filters can be made from
each swatch selection.
