The library in Urlingford, which opened in 1996, came
about as a result of a successful co-operative effort between the local
community and Kilkenny County Council. The old courthouse building was converted
and put to a new use as a public library and provide a valuable asset to the
local community. The library has computerised lending system and is linked to
all of Kilkenny County Library’s other computerised branches in the county.
This allows borrowers in the library access to an even greater range of books
than just their local branch.
The library opens 30 hours per week and offers a varied
range of books for adults, teenagers and children. Other services provided in
the library include reference books, photocopying, exhibitions and noticeboards
for community information. Internet access is also provided on 4 computers.
