Our school is located behind the St. Patrick’s Church. We have two schools. One holds Juniors up to Fifth class.

The other one holds Sixth class.

(Who is that mystery student that

got in the way of our photographer?)

The school that holds Juniors up to Fifth class is higher up and a good bit bigger than the other school too. When you first come into Kilbrittain village you can see the school.

The church in Kilbrittain is called ‘St.  Patrick’s Church’.  It is located in front of the school.

Fr Riordan says mass there every day (over eight times a week). He lives in the priest’s house very near the church.

Three choirs sing in the church, they are ‘The women’s choir’, ‘The Folk Group’ and ‘The Children’s Choir. One of the choirs sings every weekend.

We have an old graveyard on Clashavana Hill. In the old graveyard are the remains of gravestones that are over 100 years old and the remains of a church of Ireland. The remains of the church contains of a wall and a few stones.

The Kilbrittain GAA was founded over 100 years ago in 1904. Our centenary year was in 2004.

The location of our GAA pitch is just above the terraces in the middle of the village. Not so long ago it was in terrible condition but now it’s looking great. It is about a three minute walk from our school. We play all our Sciath na Scol games there. Our school pitch is on a hill, and is one of the quickest drying pitches in West Cork. The final place I’m going to tell you about is the community hall. Various activities take place here and it’s the venue for all the school concerts.

KILBRITTAIN CASTLE

Kilbrittain Castle is located around a mile outside Kilbrittain village. It is very old. It is used as a Bed & Breakfast and at Halloween they used to do a scary tour, which was very good. It is owned by Tim O’Brien and his wife Sylvia.

There is a very long drive way up to the house, and on each side there is grass and daffodils with rabbits there.

In Kilbrittain castle there is an underground tunnel at the side which runs along underground all the way to Coolmain castle. It is broken down around the middle so you cannot walk all the way to the other side of the tunnel.

Coolmain Castle

Coolmain Castle is over looking the sea, and has a lovely view. It is owned by Walt Disney’s nephew Roy Disney. It is kept in great condition by him. He lives by the sea which is nice.

Our village is located in West Cork near Bandon. You can see our school just coming into the village. The village is about a mile and a half long. We have four estates, a hall, a GAA pitch, a church and loads of land.

The most popular crop grown in Kilbrittain is wheat. We also grow crops like maize, barley, beet and oil seed rape. We have two beaches, Coolmaine and Harbour View. The most popular beach is Coolmaine.
