January 2011.
We have witnesed one of the best spawning sasons seen for ages. The numbers of salmon jumping the weir in Bandon made headlines and proved quite a spectacle to locals who spent hours watching such a magnificent migration. Even school children were taken from their class rooms to watch the scene. This must surely be partly due to the lifting of drift nets four years ago. All we need now is a normal summers weather (not too many extreems of drought and floods) and we should be in for a cracking season.
As of tomorrow (20th January) we have tradesmen moving into the apartment (Granny Flat) to carry out major refurbishment. We plan to convert the second floor and add an extra bedroom so that we can accommodate four people. We are also re insulating the entire house. Our plan is to long let the gate lodge and utilize just the apartment for the fishery.
