Sean McDonagh

January 13th, 20th, 27th, February 3rd, 10th 1999

People motivated by religious faith have not been to the forefront of those working to protect God's Creation. The course will look at some recent efforts to develop a theology of creation in the various christian churches. It will discuss issues such as the extinction of species and the depletion of the ozone layer. Practical issues in the area of liturgy and spirituality which might help christians to care for the earth will also be examined.

Sean McDonagh is well known for his writings on environment, creation theology and world debt. He has become a well-known voice in Irish media as a spokesperson for environmental and debt issues. After many years of pastoral ministry in the Philippines, he is much in demand as a lecturer in different parts of the world, including the Pacific Mission Institute in Sydney, Australia. He is currently Justice and Peace co-ordinator for the Columban Society in Ireland. Among is writings are To Care for the Earth (1986), The Greening of the Church (1990), and Passion for the Earth (1994)
