THE SEASON 1981/82
HISTORY
1981/1982
The team managed by Mick Canning won promotion to division
2 ,finishing runners up to Avondale. With 2 games to go we needed 4 points
to win the league but lost the second last match to Avondale, on a
scoreline of 3-1.
This team also reached the quarter final of the
Presidents Cup, we were beaten by Kilreen Celtic on penalties.

ROOM AT THE TOP FOR LEESIDE
Leesides' good form has brought them close to the top of the Third
Division and they are finding out that life at that level can be tough.
Next Sunday, morning at Little Island Mike Canning's squad face their
toughest league test to date when leaders, Avondale Utd come to visit.
Knocked out at quarter-final stage of the President's Cup, Leeside decided
to, concentrate their ambitions for this season on the league. That's why
captain, Garry Tobin, veteran midfielder, Jerry Ryng, and regular
marksman, Raymond O'Connor, will spearhead a determined Leeside challenge
to the leaders.
For the second week running, Leeside hit five; their opponents on this
occasion were Douglas Hall Wanderers. Leeside went ahead in the 15th
minute. when eagle-eyed Raymond O'Connor, took advantage of hesitation in
the Douglas defence to open his account. Immediately afterwards Paddy Ward
hit a great effort against a post. Into the second half, and O'Connor
scored again- this time from a spotter awarded after a foul on himself.
Then Douglas had a man sent off and Ward scored two spectacular goals
(both diving headers). And it was Raymond who tallied Leeside's fifth to
complete his hat trick. The Leeside midfielders (Gerry Ryng, Gerry Lambe
and Garry Tobin) contributed most to this big win. Goalkeeper, Denis
Hayes, also caught the eye.
