…… 8-8 St. Michael’s …… 4-2 Match report by Ray Donlon Melview
overcome a strong St. Michael’s side Melview and St. Michael’s
played their round three game of the in Longford Slashers and going into this
game both sides had good wins recently with St. Michael’s having a convincing
win over Newtownforbes and Melview overcoming Edgeworthstown. Melview in the end
came away with a good win but the score does not reflect the game as St.
Michael’s fought hard and in the end were unlucky with Melview coming out on
top with the final score readying Melview 7-5 to St. Michael’s 4-2. Melview
registered the first score of the game with Padraig O’Reilly slotting over a
brilliant point from play. Robert Kennedy then pointed Melview’s next score of
the game of with a nice point. Thomas Kelly was then on the mark for Melview
with a well struck point from play. Melview went on to record the next score
once more coming from a lovely point from play from Thomas Kelly. Melview were
four points up with nine minutes gone on the clock. Coming
off an excellent move down the centre of the field by Melview with Thomas Kelly
hitting a cracking shot with it landing in the back of the St. Michael’s net.
Melview then scored their second goal on the trot with Paul Devine smacking it
to the back of the net this time. Melview who were the stronger side overall
with them recording all the scores of the game in the first twenty-five minutes
of the first half. Thomas
Kelly was once again on the mark for Melview when he fired over a well-taken
point from play. St. Michael’s finally started to play some good football with
them then scoring 1-1 in the space of two minutes with the first of them coming
from Michael Stokes with a well-taken point. St. Michael’s goal then came from
Jamie Mulligan hitting a cracking shot to the back of the Melview net. To leave
the score at halftime Melview 2-5 to St. Michael’s 1-1. Melview
got off to the better start in the second half with Sean Flynn scoring a super
goal from play one minute into the second half. St. Michael’s who never
dropped the heads all during the game then scored a fabulous goal from play when
Mark Mulligan was on the mark again with him scoring a lovely goal from play.
Paul Devine however for Melview was on the spot once again with him winning a
lovely ball and going through to fire home another super goal from play. St.
Michaels notched the next point of the game with Martin Nevin sending over an
excellent point from long range. Melview once again took control of the of the
game with Morgan Kelly who was not on the field five minutes scored 1-1 with the
first of them a well-taken point from play and then from the St. Michael’s
kick out he won a lovely ball again and sold the dummy and fired home a magical
goal. Thomas
Kelly recorded the next two scores of the game with the first of them a lovely
point from play, Kelly then went on to score Melview’s next goal of the game
with him hitting a cracking shot to the back of the net. Melview’s next point
came from one of the younger players on the field Franklin O’Reilly who fired
over a brilliant point from long range. Melview’s
next goal also came from another one of the younger stars with Daniel Mimnagh
firing a long range shot with it landing so perfectly in the top corner of the
St. Michael’s net to put Melview well on the way now to victory. St.
Michael’s did record one more goal before the end with Martin Nevin scoring it
from play. Melview also registered their seventh goal of the game with Paul
Devine on the mark once again. This
was a very exciting game contest played by two of the local town schools with
Melview in the end having a good win. But the St. Michael’s side did to their
credit try extremely hard and never stopped trying from start to finish. MELVIEW:
