CLUB INFORMATION
FIRST AID EQUIPMENT
General Information
Contents of first aid boxes and kits should be replenished as soon as possible after use in order to ensure that there is always an adequate supply of materials.
Items should not be used after the expiry date shown on packets. It is therefore essential that first-aid equipment be checked frequently, to make sure there are sufficient quantities and all items are usable.
First Aid Boxes in the Clubhouse
First aid boxes should be made of suitable material designed to protect the contents from damp and dust and should be clearly identified as first-aid containers.
First-aid boxes which are to form part of a club’s first-aid provision should contain only those items which a first-aider has been trained to use.
Sufficient quantities of each item should always be available in every first-aid box or container. In most cases these will be:
One guidance card;
Individually wrapped sterile adhesive dressings (assorted sizes), appropriate to the club environment;
Sterile eye pads, with attachment;
Six individually wrapped triangular bandages;
Safety pins;
Medium sized, individually wrapped, sterile unmedicated wound dressings;
Sterile water or sterile normal saline in sealed disposable containers;
Where blankets are provided, they should be stored alongside the equipment and in such a way as to keep them free from dust and damp;
Disposable aprons and plastic gloves should be provided near the first-aid materials and should be properly stored and checked regularly to ensure that they remain in good condition.
Blunt ended stainless steel scissors should be kept where there is a possibility that clothing might have to be cut away;
Plastic disposable bags for soiled or used first-aid dressings should be provided.
Travelling First Aid Kits
The contents of travelling first-aid kits should be appropriate for circumstances in which they are to be used. At least the following should be included:-
Card giving the general first-aid guidance;
Individually wrapped sterile adhesive dressings;
One large sterile unmedicated dressing;
Two triangular bandages;
Safety pins;
Individually wrapped moist cleansing wipes.
