Week-ending Sep 15th Congratulations to the Galway minor team on a superb win in the All Ireland final over Cork on Sunday last. There was great excitement in Portumna on Mon. evening when the entire panel visited the town with the cup. The following report of the match was written by Conor Muldoon in second year Hayes strikes for Galway A strong Galway side defeated Cork on Sunday on a scoreline of 2-19 4-10, to win a historic second all Ireland minor title in a row. Inspired by six of last years team; Damien Hayes, Ger Farragher, Ritchie Murray, Brian Mahoney, Kevin Brady and Fergal Moore. Two goals and two points from Ardrahans David Greene set Galway on the road to victory. With just ten minutes remaining the game seemed to be going Corks way as they were leading by four points when Greene pounced for his second goal to second Cork home empty handed. An excellent performance by one of last years heroes, Portumnas Damien Hayes who scored 3 points by play and 1 8 in the hole championship. Wing back Adrianne Cullinane got an excellent point in the dying stages to finish off a great day for Galway. Previous News Pages
