In
our locality there are many Organisations and Clubs that do very good voluntary
work with people.
The Camogie Club
Síle has been managing Camogie
for eleven years. Many of us are on the teams. We have won four County Finals
and we have won three Roinn A Blitz. Síle is very generous with the time
she spends training us and we all love Camogie.
G.A.A.
Club
Erin's
Own Gaelic Athletic Association was founded in 1885 in the Castlecomer area.
Players come from the 5 schools in the locality. John
Kelly who coaches the under 16 said that he loves the hurling and enjoys passing
on the love of the game to the young people. There are between 30 to 40
people involved with voluntary training.
They have built a new clubhouse
and have called it after a man who did a lot for the people in Castlecomer.

Basketball
Club
We have
a basketball club in Castlecomer with teams of under 10’s to under 18’s.
Joe Byrne trains the teams. He
has done a lot to promote basketball and to train us in the skills of the game.
We have won many competitions over the years. We are allowed use the
Community School’s courts and gym for our training. We are very grateful to Joe for all the time he gives to us
and we all enjoy basketball very much.
Deenside
Players is a group of people who devote much time on an annual basis to the
production of a pantomime, which involves up to 80 people, 40 of whom are
children and teenagers.
We
are very lucky to have so many volunteers to help us with the different
activities. We hope to continue
this spirit and that in the years to come, we will be the generous and caring
volunteers.
