Urban Institute
of Ireland Director The Urban Institute of Ireland has been created with
the support of the HEA (The Irish Higher Education Authority) under the
leadership of University College Dublin in partnership with Trinity
College Dublin and the collaboration of other third level institutions.
The disciplines involved include architecture, economics, engineering,
environmental studies, geography, planning, sociology, urban
archaeology. The Institute will be housed in a custom built facility now
under construction that will be ready for occupancy in late 2002. The Mission Ø
To
undertake interdisciplinary research across a broad range of programme
areas, including mobility, fabric and urban evolution, building
performance and sustainability, change and development, governance and
risk management. Ø
To
be a centre of research excellence in Ireland in the urban studies
fields Ø
Provide
a focal point in Europe for research in urban studies engaging the
interest and activity of leading scholars Ø
To
support the development of the Urban Information System (URBIS). The DirectorØ
Will
manage the Institute and lead its development so that it becomes an
international leader in urban research. Ø
Will
have successful experience of mobilising academic engagement across a
range of disciplines and faculties. Ø
Will
have experience of communicating findings to the public, those in
business and policy makers. Ø
Will
have skills in generating external funds to maintain and expand the
research programme. An attractive employment package
will be offered for this senior appointment, which will be remunerated
at a level up to the equivalent of University Professor.
Post Doctoral FellowsThe
Postdoctoral Research Fellowships will allow the holders to engage in
high quality research in urban-related studies. Applicants will be
expected to be based in the Institute, and to hold or be close to
