I am a television camera operator with twenty years experience. I was born in Belfast in 1963 and in 1970 my family emigrated to Adelaide, South Australia. In 1979 I started to learn my craft at channel 9 as a studio cameraman, on outside broadcasts and shooting single camera productions. I was involved in the production of all types of television programmes and many sports including football, cricket, equestrian events and Australian Rules football.

In 1985 I took to the greener pastures of Sydney and landed a job with a production company shooting many types of single camera jobs including corporate and industrial films, commercials and a large number of sporting profiles for the nine network’s Wide World of Sport.

After a short sabbatical in theatre I returned to television in 1987 at Ten Network as a staff cameraman where my sporting coverage experience grew to include rugby league, rugby union, golf, tennis and athletics. The main reason for my return to network television was to gain experience shooting drama in both multi-camera studio situations and single camera on location, which for the next two years I was to hone.

At the end of 1988 I again went freelance and spent the next ten years plying my trade in all the disciplines and added many more sports to the list including motor racing, yacht racing, bowls, polo and surf life saving . I also had the opportunity to maintain my drama work on such programmes as A Country Practice and Home And Away .

In 1998 I took up the offer of a contract with FOCA to cover the Formula One Championship, and I returned to Ireland. I also had the opportunity to work for Sky Sports in England covering the international and domestic cricket seasons. I returned to Sydney for the Christmas period and moved to Dublin in March for the new Formula One season and more cricket, including the World Cup.

Over the course of this career I have had the opportunity to become proficient in many disciplines and with many types of equipment including super slo-mo chains and stabilising lenses such as the Schwem, both the 6 and 30 degree models and the canon series and camera support systems such as Elemak dolly systems and various cranes, the Jimmy Jib system and the Continental mount . I also operate remote heads with either joystick or wheels, although for a wheels job I would need a little notice so I could get up to speed again in my own time.

Kevin J Magee has also had the oppourtunity to produce and direct various projects. These include full outside broadcasts and promotional material for:
