St. Joseph Boys' School Band

Our school band was founded in 1987 by Mr. John Fitzgerald. It started with 30 tin whistles. Now there are –

14 accordions ,

4 glockenspiels,

a full drum kit ,

3 bongos,

bass drum ,

snare drum ,

guitars and 50 tin whistles.

Regular performances include :

- Provision of music for the Communion and Confirmation ceremonies.

- Annual participation in the Corfhéile in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght

- The band enjoys exchange visits to Belgrove Junior and Senior Boys Schools in Clontarf annually.

Some highlights over the years:

  • In 1998 the band recorded a CD entitled ‘Peace' to commemorate the good Friday agreement.
  • Invited by the American Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith (sister to former president John.F.Kennedy) to play in her residence in the Phoenix Park.
  • Band members were also afforded a reception in Government Buildings by An Taoiseach Bertie Ahern. Also in attendance were the Tánaiste, Mary Harney and the minister for Foreign Affairs, David Andrews.
  • Sales of the CD generated in excess of €12,000 for the school.

Our repertoire extends from traditional slow airs to marches and from polkas to rock songs!

 
 



Performing at first Friday Mass
