Sport
Sport plays a very important role in St. Joseph's.Along with games played during physical education classes, pupils are given the opportunity of playing soccer (indoor and outdoor), hurling, gaelic football and basketball after school hours.

Soccer

Indoor soccer leagues are held on four afternoons per week – one day for each class group. Our school soccer team, managed by Mr. Donal Doherty, took part in the S.F.A.I. (Schools' Football Association of Ireland), this year, winning two games, drawing one and losing one. Results were as follows:

Talbot Senior 3 St. Joseph 's 4

Gaelscoil Cluain Dolcáin 1 St. Joseph 's 9

St. Joseph 's 2 Neilstown 4

Clonburris 3 St. Joseph 's 3

We hope to enter teams in the local five-a-side competitions soon. Many thanks to the parents of the boys on the school panel, for all their help and support.

Hurling

Our school hurling team, coached by Mr. Niall Desmond, takes part every year in Cumann na mBunscol Under 13 competitions. In 2004 we played for Corn Marino with matches against St. Francis Xavier (Coolmine), St. Pius X (Terenure), Scoil Lorcain (Palmerstown), Scoil Maelruain (Tallaght) and Hollypark (Foxrock). We practice our skills every day at lunch break. In June we will compete in the Clondalkin schools competition, organised by Round Towers G.A.A. Club, and hope to retain the John Curran Cup which we won in 2003.

Gaelic Football

The Cumann na mBunscol football leagues are held in the first term of each school year and St. Joseph 's, led by Mr. John Fitzgerald, always field strong teams. This year the school played for Corn Mhic Phiarais. As with last year, we topped our group section playing, amongst others, St. Kevin's, Kilnamanagh, De La Salle, Ballyfermot, Scoil Mochta and Scoil Cillian. Unfortunately, we came a cropper at the semi-final stage for the second year in succession when going under to a gallant team from Scoil Maelruain. We hope to go one better next year!

Like the hurlers, we too will participate in the summer school's competition run by Round Towers G.A.A. Club in June where we are hopeful of regaining a title won many times before.

Basketball

Down through the years, there has been a strong tradition of basketball in the school. A league, organised by Ms. Collette Duffy, is held every Thursday after school. This has become a very popular extra curricular activity. There is a junior and senior league, organised on the basis of class, age and ability. The boys choose exciting names for their teams which reflect their interest in basketball nationally and internationally – every year we seem to have a new L.A. Lakers of Chicago Bulls! Some of the boys play on local teams and there is great talent in the school. Two years ago the school entered a team in a competition with local schools and brought home the silverware. So you never know, if you are interested in basketball or just want to have a bit of fun, join up!
