St Joseph's

Roundtown Boys' National School was founded in 1866 by Rev. Canon Daniel Byrne, who had been before in charge of Celbrige. When he came to Rathfarnham he immediately undertook to build a church and schools for Terenure. He bought a large field near the crossroads as a site and called a public meeting to raise funds for one girls' and one boys' school. £150 was raised at the meeting . He immediately built two granite buildings which today are St. Joseph's BNS. Each school consisted of one large room 66ft x 22ft in size.
