Parish Priests of Terenure

Terenure was not a separate parish until 1894

V. Rev Canon Daniel Byrne came to Rathfarham and  he immediately undertook to provide a church and schools for Terenure. He purchased a large field near the crossroads as a site and called a public meeting in the village early in 1856 to raise funds to build two schools, a boy school and a girls school. £150 was subscribed at the meeting. He then built  the present Boys School of St. Josephs. Each school consisted of one large room. The rooms are each 66 feet long, 22 feet wide and 16 feet high ; and placed at right angles to each other in the shape of a capital L.

St. Joseph's Church is renowned for its stained glass windows designed by Harry Clarke.
