Places of Worship
St.Josephs ChurchIn 1898, St Joseph's Parish Church was built. Archbishop Walsh laid down its foundation stone. Although most churches at the time (1800's) were built in a Gothic fashion, St Joseph's parish church was built in a Romanesque style.

Methodist ChurchThe foundation stone was laid on 12th February 1874 and the church opened for public worship on the 7th of August that year. After the First World War the church was enlarged and a stone laying ceremony was held on the 20th of September 1924. This comprised the War Memorial Window and the memorial. SynagogueThere are about 1500 Jews in Ireland at the present and most of them live in Dublin. The Synagogue in Terenure is of quite an impressive design. The architect was Wilfrid Cantwell. It is oblong in shape with five, star shaped windows. The consecration took place in August 1953. Zion ChurchZion Church was first opened for public worship on 1st November 1861. John Gold Esq. of Cullenwood, who left money in his will for the purpose, endowed it. Galleries were added in 1870 which 'not only added to the comfort and accommodation of the congregation but have also diminished the currents of air in the Church'. |
