Football:

The first mention of football in Ireland is found in 1308. Irish forms of football were not formally arranged into an organised playing code by the Gaelic Athletic Association.Archbishop Thomas Croke one of the founders of the G.A.A gave the name Croke Park to the stadium in Dublin,it was given in honour of him.Michael Hogan died in Croke Park in 1916 and the Hogan stand was named after him. football

 

Hurling

hurling Hurling is the oldest of Irish sports. Rules were formed in 1884. Approximately 100,000 Irish people play it. Jurling is one of the fastest field games in the world. Hurling is played with a stick made of ash and the end is wrapped in metal for a good gripping handle and is measured between 30 - 37 inches in length with a broad end. This is called a hurley or a hurl.

 

Camogie.

The first ever camogie match was in 1904 in Meath. In 1905 Maire Ni Chinneide was elected first president of Camogie. In 1912 the first ever inter-county match was played between Dublin and Louth. In 1930 the American camogie association was stablished. In 1932 the all Ireland senior championship was won by Dublin. In 1934 the All Ireland final was first played in Croke Park.
