Communes of Goven & Guichen

GUICHEN
On the edge of the Rennes basin, Guichen, the main town of the Canton has a population of over 6,000 people. There are several facets to this area, ranging from the quiet charm of Port-Rean with its jetty on the river Vilaine; the cliffs and wild moorland of Le Boel, and the green countryside to the south of the town. A curiosity is the "Bois de Buis", the wood where it is said that no bird will venture. The nearby Chateau de Bagatz and Chateau de la Massaye are of interest. There are many pleasant walks along the river or along country roads. Nearby is the area called "Domaine", of particular interest to amateur geologists.

GOVEN
Goven is town of almost 3,000 inhabitants, situated to the south-west of Rennes, 16 kms. from the main ring road (the Rocade). It is built on a crater, 105m high. There are several castles, of which the Chateau de Blossac (17th century) is the most important. The area is wooded and there are several lakes. There is a marked pedestrian trail, which takes about 4 hours to complete (or a shorter route can be taken). Horse- riding trails are also available.
