![]() Angling The River Blackwater draws dedicated game anglers to hunt wild salmon, sea trout and brown trout. Coarse anglers also find the river rewarding for roach, dace, rudd and tench. Cappoquin is one of the major angling centres for the river. The river is the third largest in Ireland, draining 5 mountain ranges, and is renowned for its enormous runs of salmon, 8063 being caught by rod and line in the 1998 season. Cappoquin accounted for 235 salmon and 280 sea trout. The heaviest fish in recent years for the Cappoquin water was a huge 26-pounder, taken and landed at the famous 'Kitchen Hole' by Jim Fitzgerald. At Cappoquin the waters are tidal and fresh salmon and sea trout are constantly running. Fishing opens from the 1st of February to the 30th September each year. Lake fishing is also available in the nearby Dromana Lake for those who prefer it. ![]() Cappoquin Salmon and Trout Anglers' Association is one of the few clubs on the river and has 4 miles of double bank fishing (including 7 named pools) available to members and day ticket holders. The Toby Jug offers use of its spacious dry-room to all residents for the storage of fishing tackle. The Glenshelane River walk The Glenshelane River walk is a beautiful 10km walk signposted from Cappoquin. Along the way you will encounter pockets of the original oak and later stands of Norway spruce. The walk is particularly stunning in the spring when a carpet of bluebells is to be seen. A small wooden bridge crosses the Glenshelane River all collectively making for a truly delightful ramble.
Knockmealdown mountains walk B Walk B is a medium/moderate grade walk which approaches the Knockmealdown Mountains from Cappoquin to the south. The mountains extend in an east-west direction for approx. 20 kilometres from just north of Cappoquin. The peaks of the range mark the border between Co. Waterford and Co. Tipperary and they also extend into Co. Cork. The walk will take you across the highest peak in the range, Knockmealdown 794m, and will take approximately 4 hours. SplashWorld waterpark, Tramore Tramore also boasts an all year round indoor leisure & water centre, SplashWorld. This is fun for all the family with a 25m pool with slides, flumes, rapids, kiddies pool, wave pool and much more. SplashWorld is an ideal day out that the weather can't spoil. There are always qualified lifeguards on duty and 'Captain Bluebeard's Café', overlooking the pool, serves hot food and snacks.
