![]() Cappoquin house and gardens Cappoquin House & Gardens is an 18th century Georgian mansion built on the site of an old Fitzgerald castle in the centre of town. The house and gardens enjoy magnificent views over the River Blackwater. It was built as one of a series of castles which commanded the tidal waters of the river. Open April to July, Monday to Saturday, 9am to 1pm. Open all year for tours by appointment. Phone: +353 58 54290 Dungarvan Museum Dungarvan Museum presents the history of Dungarvan through a series of three-dimensional and two-dimensional displays. ![]() Lismore castle Lismore Castle has been the Irish home of the Dukes of Devonshire since 1753 and is possibly the most spectacular castle in Ireland. Situated in a panoramic position overlooking the Blackwater Valley it has views over rolling, wooded hills to the Knockmealdown Mountains beyond. While the castle remains a private residence, the castle gardens are open to the public. Lismore heritage centre The former courthouse in Lismore has now become the Heritage Centre where Lismore's Celtic Origins are on view in the historical display room. The story of Lismore dating from 636 is told in an award winning multi-lingual audio visual presentation narrated by Niall Tobin. Hear about Monastic Lismore, Vikings, Normans, Walter Raleigh, Lismore Castle, Cathedral and Church. Waterford Crystal visitor's centre "See how we work generations of design experience into pieces that are as individual as the people who make them. It’s a real working environment but you can get very close up to the process and see the work almost through the eyes of the artisans." The Waterford Crystal Visitor's Centre is a must see for anyone visiting the Waterford area. The centre is located in Kilbarry on the outskirts of Waterford City and has a restaurant ("Gatchells") offering traditional home cooked cuisine to suit all tastes and a Bureau de change on site. Tourin house and gardens Tourin House & Gardens are located on a 17th century estate 3 miles south of Cappoquin. The gardens are a colourful celebration of nature with their plant, shrub and tree displays.

Most people are quite surprised when they come to a bridge over the river Finisk leading to a quite unusual building, Dromana Gate. Dromana Gate is the only Gothic style Hindu Gate in Ireland, a mixture of Hindu Gothic with ogee arches, and was built in 1830 as a honeymoon gift for Henry Villiers Stuart and his wife. Mount Melleray Abbey Four miles north of Cappoquin, in the foothills of the Knockmealdown mountains, you will find Mount Melleray Abbey, a Cistercian Abbey founded in 1830's by Irish Cistercian monks. Mount Melleray welcomes visitors so come along, stay for a few hours and soak up all the silence, solitude and serenity that this west Waterford sanctuary has to offer. Dungarvan & coast drive ![]() Dungarvan & The Coast Drive take in historic sites such as Stradbally Medieval Church and Dunhill Castle, near Dunhill. The many pre-historic sites include Matthewstown Gallery Grave (circa 2,000 B.C.), near Fenor and Knockeen Portal Dolmen, near Tramore. The coast has a series of pre-historic promontory forts. Other field monuments in the Dungarvan area include the Gallowshill Mound and a Norman Motte & Bailey. |
