Camps we have been on (for photos see the gallery)

The Louis Murphy Competition: in June 1999 was our first taste of camping last year. We cooked, camped and participated in most of the events. We all had a laugh, and there was great fun in the cycle races, the fair and the games.

Stradbally: was a Cub camp in which the scouts set up on obsatcle course running through a wood.

Thomastown: was the location of a July weekender. We stayed in Thomastown Scouts den and went to the Noreside Adventure Centre, where we canoed down the Nore, absailed, went through obstacle courses, learned to fire a bow and arrow, went through a maze and through a spider web.

Patrol Leaders Conference: in Dundrum in September was attended by our P.L.s and A.P.L.s to learn more about Scouting Skills so they could pass them on to the rest of the troop.

The Regional Mountain Pursuit Challenge: in Mount Mellary and the Knockmealdowns was a tough hike and mountain climb. We camped in tents on the side of a mountain for the night after a midnight hike with the Faithlegg troop.

Ballyscanlon Hike: was a walk to Ballyscanlon by 3 scout troops: Tramore, Thomastown and Faithlegg, and 1 girl guide troop, Tramore.

Dunhill Cycle Camp: was the start of our cycle badges. We cycled from Tramore to Dunhill, up a HUGE hill near Dunhill castle and even had a midnight hike through a graveyard, the night before Hallowe'en.

In Faithlegg: we got new members camping with us for the first time as we prepared obsacle courses for new cubs and beavers.

Day trip to Dublin : on December 5th, We went on a trip on the train to Dublin for Christmas shopping in Grafton Street and the Ilac Centre, we also saw Christchurch and the monuments in O' Connell street.

Waterford Airport: was the second leg of our cycling badge and our first Scout activity for the new Millennium. We met the Air-Corps and saw the tower and the helicopter.

Sugar Loaf Rock: was the third leg of our cycling badge. We climbed the rock and on our way back saw Knockeen Dolmen.

Kilmacthomas: is where we stayed for this adventure weekend. First, we went scuba - diving in Clonea Strand, then we went for a hike in Kilmac. The next morning, the Civil Defense showed us their building and ambulance. We then hiked to the Mahon Falls and later we saw Dungarven Fire Station, found out about the fire brigade and rode 70 ft off the ground in a 'Simon Snorkel'.

Galtees MPC : On the weekend 7, 8 , 9 April 2000, 3 of our scouts and a leader went on a tough weekend of Mountain backpacking in the Galtees. Several Mountains were climbed and great fun was had. Click here for more on this weekend...

Saleen Camp: For complete log click here . . .

Beaver Day: was held in the Racecourse on the 17th June. Tramore Scouts made an obstacle course for Beavers from all over the country.

Thomastown Cub Camp: was the Cub's annual camp. The scouts also attend to help with the running of the camp and the Scouts visited Kilkenny.

Hike to Sand Dunes: It started off sunny but before long it was raining bucketloads and we all got drenched. Ruairi was feeling particularly unsafe as he had a metal rucksack on in this thunder and lightening filled Sunday Morning, but I suppose it made us ready for the Burren because nothing could be harder than this.

Comeragh's MPC: was held on 7, 8, 9, July 2000, it involved climbing and backpacking, near the Mahon Falls. Click Here for Log...

The Burren: A four day hike around County Clare involving much walking and much pine needles and many rock formations. Find out more on the Burren Page.

The Melvin Training: was a one - day base camp in which we practiced what we would need to do on the real thing.

The Melvin: After 65 years Tramore Scouts finally got to the Melvin. Lots of work but it was great fun as you'll see on The Melvin Page.

The Regional Quiz: We won!!!!!!!!!!! We'll be going to the final in February

Newtown: was our link day and it was a great success and we built bridges and sisal trails and cooked dinner.

Dunhill: for the second year in a row was where we held our Hallowe'en sleepover, it also acted as a preperation hike for the new link scouts.

Dublin : was once again the location of our Christmas Shopping expedition and this time we even took a bus tour around the city.

The Regional PLs training course : was a weekender that took place in Mount Mellary and two of our scouts attended.

Orienteering: was our first activity of 2001 and it was a regional one. Tramore came 3rd overall and a great time was had by all.

Regional Fun Weekend was held in Mount Mellary and 11 Scouts from Tramore were there. We hiked up Knockmeal and Knocknafallia on Saturday and almost had a Burrenesque experience going through a wood. Oh yeah, in keeping with tradition we rolled down Knocknafallia AGAIN!!!

Regional Swimming Gala which was held in the Waterford Glass Swimming complex and Tramore Scouts won convincingly by thrashing everybody in most of the races. We won both U13 & U16 relays as well as U16 Backstroke, Front Crawl & Breast Stroke.

National Quiz was held in Waterford this year and we finished 12th out of about 60.

Sand Dunes Hike (with Girl Guides) and sleepover was a great 2 days with many wide games and hikes.

Ted Ryan Practice was held on a very rainy day in April and we got experience in putting up a tent with handicaps in a local caravan park, and then practiced cooking in the hall.

Ted Ryan Competition: Due to the foot & mouth crisis, this competition was unable to take place in the planned format and instead of camping in a field, the teams participating stayed in Scout Dens in Waterford, and the bases were also held in and around the city. Full log, photos, etc here.

Racecourse Camp: was a 2 night camp held in the racecourse to show off our new tents. Thomastown scouts, Kilmacow scouts and Tramore Girl Guides also attended. We also had a really good activity / obstacle course including tug of war and water slide.

Ballymacaw was the location of an overnighter for the scouts attending the Louis Murphy competition.

Louis Murphy Competition: Our junior scouts participated in the second part of the Regional Shield with Matt as P.L.

Cub Camp was held at the racecourse and was staffed by Tramore Scouts. The weather was beautiful from the 28th June - 1st July and we even got a hike to the sandhills. There were many water fights.

Kerry was our annual camp this year and it was held from 5th to 9th of July. We linked with Thomastown for this event which included swimming in the sea and hiking the mountains of the Dingle peninsula. Click here for log.

Comeraghs: all by ourselves.

Comeraghs MPC: with other people.
