Intro
Welcome to the digital photography section of greater
sites.
Here you will learn the basics of editing and storing photos on your
PC. From rotating, cropping and resizing to superimposing one image
onto another. And the best way to store and organise photos on your
PC. |
|
First of all you will need a Scanner or digital camera to get the photos
on to your PC, and some photo editing software which comes free with most
digital cameras and scanners. The software that I am using here is Paint
shop Pro7 and Adobe Photoshop Elements . If you did not get photo software
with your camera you can get these for around £70 or get a 30day
trial of Paintshop Pro of a cover disk or download from here PSP.
( I highly recommend Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 which sells fro around
€100 & is easy to use.)
Getting photos on
your PC.
Using a Scanner
If the photos that you are scanning are for use on your PC, keep the resolution
to around 100dpi.
If the photos that you are scanning are going to be printed out, use a
higher resolution. Around 200dpi will be fine for most.
(The lower the dpi the faster the scan and less
disk space it will use)
Using a Digital
Camera.
All digital cameras differ in the way
you get the images to your PC. Some use USB, some use serial port with
USB being the fastest of the two. Best of all get a Card Reader, which
will also save your camera's batteries while you transfer your images.
It's best if you are a beginner to use the software that came with the
camera to download the photos to your PC.
