It's the height of summer and quite a contrast to the pictures below. The biggest news, I suppose, is that I have a new job with Dell. It's just 3 months into the role, so I am still in probation. It's quite demanding as the organisation is very big and it has been a task to get to know everybody.
Úna and I did indeed return to Hamburg in May to see everyone. Mum was there from Scotland, Klaus and Sigi came from Chemnitz, and we met up for that great German tradition of "Kaffee und Kuchen", or coffee and cake. We also met Michael, who travelled down from Copenhagen to meet us. Together we went to the Hafengeburtstag, a big fete down in the port, but the weather was so poor, we ended up in a bar and went for dinner later. We met my grandparents for Sunday lunch and Úna and I also went to see Hamburg SV play against Mönchengladbach in the AOL-Arena, but would you believe it, Hamburg failed to score again! At least they didn't lose, but I have now travelled to the stadium three times from Ireland and each time they failed to score, losing 0-1 to Panathinaikos in the Champions League, 0-2 to Hannover in December '04, and now drawing 0-0... Sigh!
Norma and Trevor married in June. Norma was Úna's bridesmaid at our wedding, and she got to reciprocate the honour. Since I am obviously biased, you'll not believe me if I tell you Úna came close to stealing the show, but I hope to post some pictures shortly as proof. I'm currently editing the video.
Vally kindly sent seed potatoes during April, so I planted some "proper" potatoes, not the floury kind they love so much here in Ireland. The pictures below will give you an indication. The other shots are of some of the flowers in the garden at this time of year.
Enjoy!
Nick
