Literacy Development

 

Programme Development

1.    I.T. as a learning medium and tool.

2.    Family-based learning.   

3.    Participation in networks

4.    Use of a network developed around an 8-15 ESL project could be used as a link to parents and children.

5.    Introduction of a limited Caring/Advocacy service.  

6.    Increase numbers form the current base of 450 (approximately) learners

7.    Engaging in Awareness/Promotion activities in their districts.

 

 

Material Development

1.    One Literacy Scheme intends developing materials for use in providing Family Literacy Training.

2.    One Literacy Scheme proposes to develop and publish materials for general use in Literacy Training.

From time to time material prepared by learners as they follow their Programmes can be useful to other learners who follow on. 

It would necessary to prepare this material for printing and to print it or to correctly store it if it is in I.T. format.

  

Literacy Development - Ongoing Work

·        The development of networks within each district and for the Traveller’s Literacy Scheme, the development of links to the district networks.

·        The preparation by each Literacy Scheme of more structured and longer term service plans and implementation.

·        The development and implementation of an agreement about the oversight and provision of training. [Training Group]

·        The formation of a Coordinating Group and the appointment of a person to work with this group.

·        The development and implementation of systems of reporting.

·        Seven of the Literacy Schemes intend to use I.T. on an early date as a learning medium and tool.

·        Five Literacy Schemes intend to become involved in providing family-based learning.   

·        Two Literacy Schemes have networks immediately available to them through which they can begin this work.  

·        One Literacy Scheme is to explore how a network developed around an 8-15 ESL project could be used as a link to parents and children.

·        Literacy Schemes have provided a limited Caring/Advocacy service.  

·        Six now wish to extend this service.

·        All Literacy Schemes intend to extend their services form the current base of 450 (approximately) learners and are engaging in Awareness/Promotion activities in their districts.
