Location of Literacy Schemes
Eight of the Literacy Schemes are district based and the
Travellers’ Scheme operates across the City. The
Baseline Data Report – September 1998 prepared by Gamma for Cork City
Partnership Ltd, shows a Decile Deprivation Score – 1996 for the City by
District Electoral Division.
From maps it can be seen that six of the eight district-based
Literacy Schemes are placed in areas experiencing high levels of deprivation.
The City Centre Scheme is the longest established and the largest Scheme and
draws learners from throughout the City. In Bishopstown, the overall level of
affluence gives a score, which masks a locality in which considerable
deprivation occurs.
