The Literacy Service Training Group

 

  1. Provision of appropriate training is seen as central to the development and maintenance of the service.
  2. In line with the anticipated increase in learner numbers all Literacy Schemes intend recruiting additional voluntary tutors and to have basic training provided for them.
  3. To identify training needs for tutors around the use of IT as a learning medium and tool with a view to providing suitable training for them.  

  4. Training for volunteers in the provision of Family Literacy programmes etc.

  5. Providing training in project Management for its Representative Group

The schemes conduct initial and on-going training to the volunteer.

Training to provide advice and counselling for adult learners who participate in literacy schemes.

Exploring learners needs in literacy learning.

Development and use of self-evaluation methods in literacy schemes is encouraged.

Participation in National Certificate in Training and Development [Adult Basic Education Management] for Adult Literacy Organisers.

The Course is a partnership between the National Adult Literacy Agency [N.A.L.A.] and Waterford IT and is a response to the increasing need to gain recognition for those who are playing a key role in creating new and efficient approaches to the Literacy problem.

Four Organisers are currently participating in NCEA Programmes at Waterford Institute of Technology.

Two Literacy Schemes propose to identify training needs for tutors around the use of IT as a learning medium and tool with a view to providing suitable training for them.   

One Literacy Scheme proposes providing 5 to 7 days training for volunteers in the provision of Family Literacy programmes.

Again, if successful and effective, this training could serve as a model for further use

One Literary Scheme proposes to provide training in project Management for its Representative Group.
