Syllabus
KRIYA:
Will include understanding & practice
of Jala Neti, Simhasana, Uddiyana Bandha, Agni Sara & Nauli. Approx 10 hours
per annum.
ASANA:
Will include the understanding &
practice of Standing Poses, Sitting Poses, Leg Stretches, Forward Bends,
Navamala, Twists, Hand Balancings, Backbends, Sirsasana & Sarvangasana
Cycles, Vinyasa, Bandhas & Mudras. May include some written work.
Approx 60 hours per annum.
PRANAYAMA:
Will explore Prana, the effects of
Breathing Techniques, the theory & practice of Pranayama practices such as
Ujjayi, Bhastrika, Viloma, Kapalabhati, Nadi Sodhana etc. Approx 15 hours per
annum.
RELAXATION:
Exploring the Theory & the Practice of
various relaxation techniques, such as Autogenic Relaxation, Yoga Nidra etc.
Approx 5 hours per annum.
MEDITATION:
Exploring the Theory & the Practice of
various meditation techniques, such as Annapanasati, Mehta Bhavana, Yantra,
Mantra etc. Approx 10 hours per annum.
PHILOSOPHY:
Various Texts will be studied (e.g.
Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, Sri Auriobindo etc) &
explored & discussion will take place round various important concepts,
themes & ideas. These concepts will be presented in such a way that students
may
personally take on board & apply these to their own lives. May include some
written work. Approx 8.75 hours per annum.
ANATOMY &
PHYSIOLOGY:
Will include the study of the structure of
the body, its movements & its systems, both gross & subtle & in
relation to the Practice of Yoga. May include some written
work. Approx 8.75 hours per annum.
DISCUSSION:
The group will share & support
together the experiences & the changes that are taking place for them, to
help develop & explore their relationships. Approx 8.75 hours per annum.
ETHICS:
Will also be covered in Philosophy,
Discussion, Asana etc. but included in this section will be Teaching Practice,
Class Planning etc. Approx 8.75 hours per annum.
GUESTS:
Will be brought in to explore in more
depth aspects of the course including Mantra, Group Dynamic or healing therapies
that may support the work taking place on course. Approx 15 hours per annum.
JOURNALLING:
Will be an important aspect of the course
& will be used to document progress & understanding of the effects of
all the practices on the course & home study/practice.
· Please note these hours are approximate & may change according to the
groups’ needs/requirements.
· In Year 2 or 3, 15 hours will be devoted to completing a basic First Aid
Course.
· In Year 3 Students will be required to submit a Project, which will form part
of their final assessment. The Project is expected to be substantial & must
be relevant to Yoga.
