The St. Pauls Scout Troop meets every monday night from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at
the scout hall which is situated behind St. Pauls Church in the Lisduggan area of
Waterford City. The meetings consist usually of two games, one at the start and one at the
end of the meeting. Between these games there is badgework which is split into the 4
stages of the badgework system, Tracker badge, Explorer badge, Star Scout badge and
National Scout badge. The Chief Scout badge is usually left up to the Scout to complete. A
number of bases are also set up during the meeting.
These can be anything from first-aid to tracking signs and all these
bases help the scout achieve more merit badges and awards. Occasionaly, especially in the
summer, the scout meeting is moved out to a local forest where campfires and backwoods
skills are taught to the Scouts. Overall, a lot of fun is had by Scouts and leaders and
little do the Scouts know that what they are learning has helped the Troop scoop three All
Ireland Melvin victories in the last three years. Our Melvin training lasts all year but
to the Scouts its just a meeting to have some fun. The troop also goes on numerous camps
throughout the year with the annual camp at the end of the Scouting year. This year,
Annual Camp was in England for the first time in a while. Blackwell Court was the venue
with the De La Salle Scout Unit also
travelling. |
