HIKING
Hiking is a favourite with all ages. Hikes can be long or short, full day or half day, local or further afield, and they can be suited to all ages and levels of fitness.
There are many different themed hikes which you can do. Here's a few suggestions:
· Cooking Hike - Check you are allowed to light fires.
· Backwoods Cooking Hike - again check if you can light fires
· Heritage Hike - hike to a place of historic or cultural importance.
The Irish Heart Foundation has come up with this series of walks throughout the country, which aim to make exercise attractive and more fun.
There are distinctive signs along walking routes to mark each kilometre walked. The signs are not numbered, so you can start at a convenient sign and easily keep track of the distance.
There are Sli na Slainte routes all around the Diocese. For more detailed information visit the Irish Heart Foundation at www.irishheart.ie
