Last weekend saw the club participating in the Wicklow 200 (km) with up to nine cyclists heading to the event. The members included Fergus Murray, Barry Murray, Keith Murphy, Norman Corrigan, Gerard Hughes, Tommy Martin, Paul Hughes, John Doran and Pat Noonan. The event started at 7.00am from the basketball arena in Tallagh and with an estimated count of 1000 participants saw men and women of all ages from all over the country taking part.

As this is one of Ireland’s premier touring events it attracted a few big names such as Sean Kelly. Our own Barry Murray had the privilege of ascending the Sally Gap in the company of Sean Kelly which added to the achievement of completing the toughest tour in Ireland.

There where eleven hills to glory for the participants, which included the Sally gap(1650ft, 5 miles) twice, Wicklow Gap(1600ft, 5 miles) and Slieve Maan(1500ft) which are category one climbs. All nine members successfully completed the event and received a gold medal, certificate and a 20th anniversary jersey.

This weekend will see the club participating in the two day Border Trek that will consist of 100 miles per day. Anyone requiring last min details contact Barry on 086 6031556.

The continuing Tuesday and Thursday night spins which leave Emyvale at 6.45 PM are a perfect opportunity for new members to join and take part in low distance leisure spins. The Sunday spin will be leaving Emyvale at the usual time of 9.30am for those not taking part in the Border Trek.
