Headfort School

Domestic Arrangements

There is always a great deal of work behind the scenes in a school like Headfort: the kitchen and laundry are integral, key parts of the school, and their staff play a significant role in looking after the children.

We provide the children with a healthy, balanced and varied diet. They eat two substantial meals, and several smaller meals and snacks throughout the day. Headfort has a food committee composed of pupils, the Assistant Headmaster, a matron, and a member of the kitchen staff; its aim is to ensure that the children’s meals remain both healthy and appealing.

Headfort children wear a uniform of mainly grey clothing, and a navy-blue blazer. The clothing is easy to find; a school Clothes List is supplied.

Children may leave any activity at any time to see a matron if they feel unwell. Of course minor ailments abound. If it’s raining and cold and you do not much like rugby, it’s tempting to go from “I do not want to do this” to “I feel too ill to do this”. We try to handle these situations sensitively....

There are routine “surgeries”, morning and evening, for children to take vitamins or medicine, and to report if they do not feel well. The school doctor visits once a week for routine matters and otherwise as requested. Dentistry is left to parents and should, as far as possible, be arranged during the holidays. If there is a dental emergency, we will of course help.
