High forestry.

These photos were taken before, during and after a thunder and lightning storm. 1 Red Admiral.

This shot of the magnificent Volucella pellucens made me revise my identification of a hoverfly on June 8th to Leucozona lucorum.

The instant the thunder and lightning stopped, the sun came out and the space was alive with all manner of flying insects. This rather tattered Red Admiral perched on the Common Spotted Orchid - perhaps to dry out.

This tiny (1cm.) hoverfly was very still on the side of the Ribwort Plantain. The storm was imminent.
