The studio floor is divided into a grid of one meter squares, (or five foot squares is it is in imperial measurements) starting from what is termed the zero zero corner. The corners of these squares are stamped into the studio floor and appear as a small cross sometimes with two numbers representing its position on the floor stamped into the opposite corners of the cross.

The Studio Floor Plan shows the Meter Marks along each of the four walls and intersecting points on the floor as a small circle or a small cross.

The meter measurements out from the zero zero corner are marked on the studio walls and are known as meter marks or in the UK as footage marks.

If you stand in a studio facing the five meter mark (or five foot mark) on the wall in front of you and look directly behind you, you will see the five meter mark (or five foot mark) on the opposite wall. (Footage floor marks are at five foot centres). This indicates that you are five meters from the zero/zero corner in one direction. If you now look to your right or left and shuffle backwards or forwards till you are in line with the eight meter mark on the side walls you should be standing on the 5M/8M floor mark. These marks allow for the accurate setting from the Studio Floor Plan of studio scenery, presenter positions, etc.
