We offer a one year intensive National Certificate Course which will give you proficiency in the skills demanded in the workplace today. The course is run in a separate part of the school with no liaison with secondary students. This certificate offers an ideal stepping stone for entry into the world of work. The course is intended for those who wish to follow a business/ secretarial career, for mature people who wish to acquire new skills and recognised qualifications. Students who wish to repeat a Leaving Cert. Subject will have the chance to do so. Past graduates of St. Joseph & St. Saran's have found employment in a wide variety of positions, including the civil service, local authorities, insurance and banking, industrial and commercial firms, hotels and semi-state bodies such as Bórd na Móna and An Post. Past students who did not previously qualify for entry to IT courses have received offers of places as a result of completing our course. Higher Education maintenance grants will be available under the usual terms and conditions, and there is no fee for the course. Aims and Objectives
To enable you to become proficient in typewriting and word processing To enhance your computational skills with the use of computerised accounts and spreadsheet methods To develop a competence in communication skills To develop the skills required for effective office administration To prepare you for entry to the world of work
Certification
Certification is by the National Council for Vocational Awards-NCVA Level 2. You will also have an opportunity to take examinations and obtain certification from other recognised bodies.
Work Experience
You will attend work placement on block release-1 day per week during the school year.
Note The National Council for Vocational Awards (NCVA) was established by the Minister for Education in 1991 to set, monitor and certify standards for training programmes. NCVA qualifications are widely recognised in Ireland and abroad. They provide entry to the world of work and access to further education at higher levels.
