We are very fortunate to have our own school rugby pitch which was officially opened in 1996. This noteworthy achievement is a tribute to the hard work and commitment of many people.
Although rugby has only been played in the school for a few years, St. Joseph & St. Saran's squad has been remarkably successful. The school reached the Connaught Senior Schools' Final in 2000, losing to Sligo Grammar School. However, the u-16 squad won the Connaught Schools' Blitz last year. The Senior Team also reached the Connaught Senior Schools' Final in 1998, this time going down to Garbally College.
Both David Kelly and Conor O'Loughlin were on the Irish Youths' International team for the 2000 Four Nations, while Damien Hunt was on this team during the 1998 season, and played against England, Scotland and Wales.

The school's most notable achievement to date was in winning the All-Ireland Junior title in 1988. The school provided an impressive seven players for the Offaly Minor Football team who reached the All-Ireland in 1989.
Past pupils
Seán Grennan, James Grennan and Vinnie Claffey are all stars of the current Offaly Senior football team, while Brendan and Michael Lowry won All-Ireland Senior football medals for Offaly in 1982.
Kevin Flynn was a panel member of the Offaly All-Ireland hurling team of 1994. Cathal Maher and Seán Grennan played on the Offaly Minor hurling team that won the All-Ireland in the same year.
