The Holy Spirit in the Passion of the World
John O'Brien

September 16th, 23rd, 30th; October 7th and 14th 1998

Church renewal has generally taken place at the level of organisation and structure, often distracting the Church from its fundamental task of human emancipation and evangelisation. This course will attempt to investigate how closer attention to the Spirit of God at work in all aspects of human struggle can be an act of liberation for the church.

The theological reflection of John O'Brien is deeply rooted in a pastoral ministry, lived with those marginalised by society, which extends over many years. He has worked for over 10 years in Pakistan, and his vision and experience is informed also by time spent in West Africa and Latin America, as well as by 8 years living and working in inner-city Dublin. John O'Brien taught systematic theology for several years in Kimmage and is the author of Theology and the Option for the Poor (1992 ) and Seeds of a New Church (1994), along with a number of articles published in reviews in Asia and Europe.
