    Experiment No. 10

    Water Surface Tension 1

Experiment: To show that water has a skin

    Materials:

    You will need:

    Paper Clip
    Water
    Basin
    Blotting Paper

    Method:

    1) Half fill the basin with water

    2) Try and float the paper clip on the water - it's very difficult!

    3) Try placing the paper clip on a piece of tissue or blotting paper. Allow the tissue or blotting paper to sink and see what happens.

Result: The paper clip floated on the surface - though we had to be very careful, or it sank.

Conclusion: Together with lots of other liquids, water has a thin skin.
