Season Five:

~Xander and Giles will have major roles in Season 5 to make up for the lack of them in Season 4.

~"Season four was about freedom. The sudden freedom of college and new identity stuff. Season five will be getting back more to the concept of the family and the Scooby Gang. Their relationships will be more intense and won't be so scattered." -Joss Whedon

~Emma Caulfield is the only minor character from Season 4 who is confirmed as a regular for Season 5.

~Tara will return next season and her secret will be revealed (she is not a demon).

~A new character named Dawn will be introduced in this season. The role has yet to be cast, but is described as being a troubled 15 year old who has to have special powers (she occasionally channels evil spirits) and has a big sis/little sis relationship with Buffy (Yes, she is the "Little Sister" referred to by Faith, not the First Slayer). She also has a serious thing for Xander. Dawn will be a series regular. Here's what the NY Daily News said about the character: "They'll be adding a new preteen character to "BVTS" come fall. (What, Sarah Michelle Geller and the other original cast members are getting too old?) The character is a typical, sometimes bratty school kid - with a difference. From time to time, she slips into a trance, and evil powers speak through her."
