"We didn't have a lot of money, and he didn't have a lot of credits, so we were able to get him for cheap and after the audition, all the women were shaking. We were lucky in that he also turned out to be an incredibly talented actor."
—Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon on Boreanaz's pre-fanged days;
Entertainment Weekly, May 22, 1998

For David Boreanaz, TV is the family business. Sort of: His father, who goes by the name Dave Roberts, has for over 20 years been the weather forecaster for ABC's Philadelphia affiliate, WPVI. The Boreanaz name comes from northern Italy, where David's immigrant grandfather was a stonecutter. The youngest of three children (one sister is a New York City teacher, the other works in theatrical wardrobe in Vermont), Boreanaz, after college, studied acting in L.A. He got his first credited screen role playing "Frank," a biker boyfriend of Kelly Bundy's, on a 1993 episode of Married...With Children : "Movie Show" (April 4, 1993). Between odd jobs, he appeared in commercials for the likes of Foster's Beer and J.C.Penney, and in uncredited or possibly extra roles in the TV-movie Men Don't Lie (March 14, 1993) and the films Aspen Extreme and Best of the Best II (both 1993). Boreanaz also has a bit part as, ironically, a vampire's victim in "Macabre Pair of Shorts" (1996), the titular framing sequence of a direct-to-video program of two short horror films. Boreanaz was walking his dog, Bertha Blue, when spotted by a talent agent in 1996, leading to Buffy. Boreanaz married the Dublin-born Ingrid Quinn in 1998, and filed for divorce Oct. 15, 1999.

On Nov. 5, 1998, Boreanaz made the tabs when a former landlord sued him for allegedly trashing a house that he shared, a charge Boreanaz denied.

David's early odd jobs included parking cars at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and handing out towels at a sports club/gym.
