Work Experience

Transition Year students go on work experience for two weeks at a stretch twice a year. On this page we list where each student goes to work and what they thought of their work experience. This pagealso includes the second work expereience, done in February.

Supertune Motor Company Mechanics was never really an option for me, but after this its something to think about.

EBS I experienced contrasts in working in big and small companies.
Alan Burke St Joseph's Boys N.S. I would have never considered teaching but after this it is now a strong contender.

Ok, boring at times. Not as good as my first placement, great website though, www.peats.com
Simon Caffery School & Office World It was good fun. There was much work to do but I would work there again.
Carrol & Roche Car sales It was easy work and I had a great time working there
Ben Clarke Air Corps, Casement Aerodrome It gave me a very good insight into what life in the army is like.
Golden Pages I now know I never want to work in an office.
Paul Cleary Diamond Glass It was exciting, very interesting and I would definitely work there again.
Windsor Rialto Working in the Sales/Parts Dept. was boring as all I did was make reg plates
Brian Cruise Lufthansa Airmotive Some work was hard and some was easy. I was happy with the outcome.
Clonburris NS Very enjoyable and the working hours were handy
Joseph Doolan BOC Gases I would like to go back again and work during the summer.
Tiling I was tiling in a hotel for two weeks. The best two weeks I had in T.Y so far and great experience for me.
Philip Downes Golden Pages I found out that I really liked to work in an office.
David Griffin Euro2000 P.C.'s I learned a lot about computers, the internet and MP3's.
Delta Airlines It was very interesting working in the airport as I got to do a wide variety of jobs
Steven Higgins Bill Griffin Motors It was interesting and good and it sort of helped me with career ideas.
Bikeworld Great crack, all of the people were really friendly
Vincent Jackson Abbey Discs I learned more about music and that is what I am interested in. I loved it.
Roofing It was a good laugh, I learned alot about roofing.
Robert Keane FLS Aerospace Very exciting and amazing. It was different to the way the press shows it.
Baldonnel Casement Aerodrome It was very interesting as I am seriously considering becoming a cadet in the Air Corps.
Clint Kelly Renault Distributors A good laugh. I found that me work experience was worth while.
Alpha Lock & Safe Something I never considered doing before but was well worthwhile. I learned alot about the locksmith career and had a really enjoyalbe time here.
Keith Kenny Freynes Veterinary Practice It was really good. I learned a lot about animals and procedures and I would definitely go back.
Wyeth Bio-Tech Campus, Grange Castle It was a really big and well-run site. I really enjoyed my time here.
Barry Kiernan Venture Packing It was a well organised company but the experience was not very useful to me.
Decorating Very happy with my work experience
Daniel Martyn Sports and Leisure Centre, Clondalkin. I enjoyed helping those working on rock-climbing and absailing.
Dublin County Board, GAA training It was not much of an experience at all.
Shane McCarthy I.B.M. It was deadly. I got a different outlook on all types of the business. I'd love to go back.
A N Dardis & Son Very interesting and I really enjoyed it
Stephen McCarthy St. Josephs B.N.S I have a totally different opinion on teaching.and I liked it a lot.
Garda Band Ì loved, it was great. I would love to be a full-time musician in the band
Robert O'Farrell St Joseph's Boys N.S. I was very comfortable and happy in the teaching position. I may become a teacher when I leave school.
Plumbing Very happy with my work experience
Michael Ormonde Clonburris N.S. I found I liked doing teaching work and would not mind doing it again.
Clondalkin Youth Service and Information Centre Excellent experience, it was truely worthwhile and enjoyable
Barry Rossiter Tallaght FM An enjoyable job. It is a career opportunity I would consider in the future.
Virgin, Henry Street Staff and store were pleasant to work with, however not a career I would persue in the future
Micheal Smith Flynn's Newsagents It was brilliant bagging the fruit and vegetables.
Robbie's Barber Had an enjoyable time here - sweeping hair off the floor and making tea.
David Whelan Scoil Talbot N.S. It has opened up my mind into primary school teaching as well as secondary. I was very happy with the friendly staff.
Dublin County Board, GAA training It was quite boring as all we did was observe her coaching
