This plate is known as “Star of the Heart”. Original grey Wrappers with printed title and decorative celtic emblem. Leitrim born Susan Mitchell spent some time with the Yeats family in London in 1900 and became friendly with Jack Yeats at that time. On her return to Dublin she became Assistant Editor to George Russell (A.E.) at the Irish Homestead. She was a highly respected poet and was also sub-editor of the Irish Statesman.Because of the fragile & brittle nature of this publication and the attraction of the remarkable hand coloured plate by Yeats few copies have survived. This is the only copy I have ever seen. Rare.€750.

434. Yeats, Jack B. “W. Bird”. Between 1910 and 1941. Jack Yeats was a regular contributor to the English Satirical Magazine Punch (as was Richard Doyle who designed its famous cover). Working under the Pseudonym “W. Bird”, his first rather naïve offering to Punch entitled “The March of Science” was published on 2nd November 1910 and he continued his sketches until 1941. The original sketches were small, but he soon occupied a half page and by 1915, sometimes a full page. 90 sheets period 1911/1936. €200.

Emigrant Industrial Saving Bank 1922. pp.169. 6 plates showing examples of the destruction wrought by the Black and Tans. The Irish White Cross was formed in late 1920 with Michael Collins & Arthur Griffith as original Trustees. At the incorporation date British “Tans” had been responsible for the destruction of 1000 homes, shops creameries and factories in a cynical bid to ruin economic life in rural Ireland. They were regarded as the scum of the British Army and their savagery was infamous. America, once again, was our saviour with hugely generous donations flowing into the Irish White Cross.
