University College Dublin retained their men's team title for the third consecutive year, beating Queens University Belfast in a close contest 8-7. UCD were 7-5 down coming into the final three doubles. UCD's doubles combinations proved to be the deciding factor and created high drama as they came back to win the championships. University College Cork narrowly missed out on defending their title, loosing 8-6 to Queens University Belfast. Linda Mountjoy (UCC) current Irish No.1 went on to beat Jemma Cairns last year's defending champion in the Individual finals.
The men's final saw another excellent contest between Brian Fitzgerald (DCU) and Eoin Byrne (UCD). Fitzgerald current Irish No.1's record against Byrne has not been good, being defeated by Byrne in the last two Munster Opens. The stage was set for a classic final and the players did not let the assembled spectators down. The first set marathon went to 20/18 with Fitzgerald taking the narrow win. The next set again went to deuce with opportunities for both players to win, but Fitzgerald proved the stronger on the day taking the second and then the final set 11/9.
