We are now in our 6th year following the Green Schools' Programme. This programme involves a continuous commitment to reducing, reusing and recycling, as well as building up awareness of the protection of our environment. After the initial award of the green flag, the school is re accessed every two years. In June St. Joseph's GNS received its third flag from An Taisce in June 2004. The Principal, Sr. Mary Nunan, Teresa McCrohan, Green School Co-ordinator and two students Sarah Blanche and Grace Strong attended the official ceremony in An Taisce Headquarters in Dublin.

Presenting the flag was M.E.P. Mairead McGuinness. The award was celebrated locally on 17th June with a visit from the No. 1 Army Band. Witnessed by over 500 school children, staff, parents and community members.

Thanks to Ms. Teresa O'Brien for the beautiful photos marking the event. An Taisce was represented by John Paul O'Mahoney.

In May of 2004, parents, staff and children were involved in the "Race against Waste Wall Mural Projects." Lynda Kiernan (Mural Artist) transformed the staffs ideas into the highly child friendly wall mural we see today. The project was co-ordinated by Teresa McCrohan. Thanks to all those who contributed to the cost - M.E.G./County Council, Telfords, McElwee's, C.& A. Recycling, B.O.I. and Credit Union.

Thanks to Eithne Farrell for co-ordinating ground graphics.

One of our murals was destroyed recently when the wall was damaged. The rebuilding of the wall has obliterated the original image.

The school would be very grateful if any parent could volunteer to help with the repainting of this section. Contact the School Secretary, Mary Donoher, at 24540 if you can help.
