A plaque was erected in the school hall to celebrate 150 years of Presentation Sisters teaching in Mountmellick 1854 - 2004. The children celebrated the occasion through drama, music and story. Thanks to C. Coleman and J. Hyland for organising this event. Thanks to the parents who have helped so far this year - Brendan McEvoy, Chris. Dempsey, Michael Burke, Martin Delaney, John Williams, Kevin Joyce, John Reddin, Patrick Conroy and Pascal Hanrahan.

St. Joseph's G.N.S. are still bringing all the schools waste to the landfill with the help of parents on a rota-basis. This involves the parent collecting the waste in a trailer and transporting it to landfill with a key fob supplied by the school. Thanks to M.Reddin for help with the Waste Project

We are now looking for some volunteers to supplement the existing rota for the waste project as we haven't enough to cover the whole school year.
Please contact the school Secretary at 24540 should you be in a position to help.
This arrangement is saving the school a substantial amount of money approximately one thousand euros.

In June of 2004 our school was presented with an award for our "Wall Mural Project" in the Keadeen Hotel in Newbridge. Teresa McCrohan, A. Heffernan, Eithne Farrell and three pupils represented the school - Niamh McEvoy, Ciara Burke, Eimer McCrohan. Geri Maye from the Den was on hand to present the prize of one hundred and fifty euros.

The school collected Christmas cards again this year for recycling. The children had fun counting them and putting them into bundles. Thanks to Ms. C. Coleman for delivering them to a Recycling Centre in Carlow.
St. Joseph's Green School collected surplus goods from the factory after its unfortunate closure. Benches, cardboard, trolleys, etc. and beautiful samples of weaving techniques were given to the school. Thanks to Ms. K. Joyce and Sr. Mary Nunan for organising the collection.
Congratulations to Mounmellick Community School on receiving their Green Flag in May 2004. The work continues on!!
