After Oxford my next stop was Manchester.Since arriving in England I had stayed in a small hotel,2 hostels and a B+B but here I met up with relations of mine who very kindly let me stay for the night. After all the travelling around, tiredness was beginning to catch up with me but I still had energy to go out with my relations to a pub on the outskirts of Manchester near Cheshire where they live. The pub was quite busy when we were there early in the evening-a pint of the local brew costing £1.40 compared with over £2 in Oxford. On our way back from the pub we passed near Manchester United's training ground-no signs of the stars though.
The following day I had a look around Manchester.Eventhough I had been in Manchester a couple of times before I hadn't seen much of the centre of the city.I found it quiet nice with the on-street trams giving it a rather appealing attractiveness. On taking a picture of the tram pictured above the driver sounded the horn and gave me a big wave.
I travelled on one of the trams a short distance for the novelty of it.You could purchase tickets from the ticket dispensers at each spot.
Below is the headquarters of the local newspaper-the Manchester Evening News.
I did not visit Old Trafford football ground this time although we had seen it in the distance as we drove to Cheshire the previous day.Last year I had gone to Old Trafford for the first time.Below is a photograph of me outside the ground-the opening day of the season last year in which Manchester United beat Newcastle 2-0.Up the Reds.
Since arriving in England I had travelled by train but my 4 day travel pass had expired so I travelled by National Express to my next destination-York which took me back through Leeds.I had thus done a small circle of the country although I had also been in Manchester the previous week around 5 o'clock in the morning as I travelled to Leeds.
